水印木版画是以水性颜料分版印刷,所产生的一种具有特殊“水味”的版画形式。中国的版画水印术,有着悠久的传统,距今已有2000多年的历史,是当之无愧的水印木版画的发源地。现藏英国伦敦博物馆的唐代成通九年(868年)刻的《金刚经》扉页画《说法图》是世界上现存最古老的一幅版画。明末开始出现水印套色版画,如《十竹斋笺谱》,明崇祯十七年(1644年)在彩色套印中已采用饾板与拱花的技法。此时的水印版画艺术达到了精工巧丽、臻善臻美的境界。水印木版画在清代进入新的发展时期,开始融入民众的日常生活。比较代表性的就是年画的制作普
