1986年4月15日成立的镇江市乒乓球协会,在创建和推动全国重点乒乓城建设、培养和输送世界级后备人才,普及和提高群众性的乒乓球运动水平,加强对外交流和舆论宣传,扩大镇江知名度等方面成绩斐然。 10年中,镇江市和八叉巷小学两座专用乒乓馆先后落成;每年一度的“市长杯·津市杯”比赛参与者累计逾万;《镇江乒乓通讯》稿件被全国和省市20余家新闻单位录用
