水墙是美国新近出现的早春作物近地保护体。据实测4月平均温度水墙内比水墙外高6.2℃,其中白昼高9.5℃,夜间高3.3℃。因此,无论对番茄前期的生长发育和后期的产量都有显著的效果。根据对比试验测定结果,保护期间株高、叶面积、鲜重分别是对照的2.2、3.8和3.2倍,开花、结果、始熟等主要生育期比对照提早18～22天,折合亩产比对照增加3050公斤,增产率为97%。
