太原铁路局成立于2005年3月18日,管辖南北同蒲、大秦、京包、京原、石太、太焦、侯月、侯西、迁曹等十大干线和宁苛、太古岚等十条支线,东起能源大港秦皇岛,西至黄河禹门口,北到煤都大同,南至古迹风陵渡,路网纵贯三晋南北,横跨晋冀京津两省两市,线路总延长7561.3公里,铁路营业里程2951公里,下设34个运输生产站段,共有职工11.5万人。
