随着奶牛饲养业在市郊农村和国营农场的不断发展,对饲料作物青饲玉米的产、质量要求尤为迫切。为了引选一个高产、抗病、抗倒伏的优良饲用玉米新品种,本站于1980年着手青饲玉米试验,并于1981年建立“青饲玉米引选”攻关课题,从事引种、区域试验和推广应用。上海农垦系统青饲玉米的种植面积较大,急切希望有一个既优质高产又管理方便的品种,用以淘汰“金皇后”、“白马牙”老品种。1980年本站从广西引进了部分品种进行观察,1981年系统地从广西、云南、贵州等省实地调查的基础上陆续收集了不同县份的近四十份材料进行了引种观察、区域试验。其中广西“桂单”系统和“墨白一号”系统的品种均表现高产,而“墨白一号”(以下简称“墨白”)青饲产量经
