January 9, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released the first “Global Environmental Competitiveness Report.” The report ranked the environmental competitiveness of 133 countries, ranking 87th in China. Among them, the air quality ranked second from the bottom. From the perspective of fine particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide emissions, China is ranked fourth, second and third respectively in the world. What a shocking set of data! As a Chinese, we have to ponder! Today, China’s economy is already among the highest in the world. This actually makes people feel proud and elated. However, China’s air quality is followed by that. This shows that China’s economic development is based on the sacrifices of the environment.
