奉节是全国贫困山区县之一,位居长江三峡腹地、重庆市东大门。多年来,奉节县大力实施天然林保护工程,以绿山富民为目标,在严格保护公益林、不断培育森林资源的前提下,把后续产业的发展作为重要措施,取得了丰硕的成果,特别是绿化长江工作成效突出,成为四海游客三峡之行的一大看点。中共中央政治局委员、重庆市委书记薄熙来在实施长江森林工程项目中提出了“要在未来4年全面绿化600公里长江”的目标,奉节县作为全市四个长江两岸森林工程示范段建设试点区县之一,先期为201.8公里的长江两岸披上绿装。
