The IEEE 802.11 family of wireless LANs provide a sleep-based energy-saving mechanism for terminals that have energy-saving needs. According to whether there is an energy saving requirement, the terminals can be classified into two types of terminals (hibernate terminals) using the mechanism and terminals (normal terminals) that do not use the mechanism. The channel competition between the normal terminal and the dormant terminal has an important influence on the energy saving effect of the dormant terminal. This paper proposes a priority-based energy saving mechanism. This mechanism is based on the IEEE 802.11e protocol and achieves priority differences by setting different contention avoidance windows for dormant terminals and normal terminals to enhance the channel competitiveness of dormant terminals. The analysis and simulation results show that this mechanism can effectively improve the energy saving effect of dormancy terminal.
