In order to evaluate the causes of death of tin miners, a total of 7855 workers from 4 tin mines in Guangxi were subject to a cohort study, which went back to the end of 1994 and totaled 171,250 man-years. The results showed that the standard death ratio (SMR=1.02) for tin miners was slightly higher than the national average. The diseases with high mortality were mainly tuberculosis, malignant respiratory diseases (including pottery pneumoconiosis), cardiovascular disease, and liver cancer. . The main diseases affecting the life span of workers are malignant tumors, cardiovascular diseases, non-malignant respiratory diseases and cerebrovascular diseases. Non-malignant respiratory diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and lung cancer deaths among dust-laden workers were significantly higher than those of non-dust-laden workers. The primary occupational hazard that affects the health of tin miners is dust.
