奥康纳冷静而残忍的文风中蕴涵着哥特美学。小说集《好人难寻》是其哥特笔法的集大成之作。在这部集子里,奥康纳关注人类的内心世界,思考人性的异化问题。其小说中的哥特成分并不意味着它仅仅是读者获得猎奇和刺激体验、满足低层次娱乐需求的庸俗读物,而是在黑暗中思索人类的未来是否存在救赎和新生的可能性。本文以小说集《好人难寻》为中心,从形象塑造、环境刻画、情节设置三方面,浅析奥康纳小说中的哥特艺术。
O’Connor calm and cruel style implies gothic aesthetics. The novel “Good Man Hard to Find” is a masterpiece of his Gothic style. In this collection, O’Connor concerned about the inner world of human beings, thinking about the alienation of human nature. The gothic composition in his novels does not mean that it is merely a vulgar reading of the novelty and stimulating experience of readers, satisfying the needs of low-level entertainment, but contemplating the possibility of redemption and new life in the darkness of the future of mankind. Based on the novel Hard to Find, this article analyzes the Gothic art in O’Connor ’s novels from three aspects: image creation, environment depiction and plot setting.
