1988年夏,广东粤剧院举办“文觉非从艺六十年师徒演出晚会”,著名戏曲理论家王季思教授为此填了一阕《清平乐》:迷奚双眼,一副孩儿面,妙语哄堂归劝善,菩萨心肠谁见。乡邻鸡鸭休争,舞台便是人生。打罢铜锣归去,满天星斗纵横。这首词十分传神地描画了文觉非在舞台上的形貌,粤剧观众只要想起他那“迷奚双眼,一副孩儿面”,就会忍俊不禁。从湖南花鼓戏移植过来的《打铜锣》,是他经过“十年浩劫”后重登舞台时新排的戏,也是他一生演过的几百个剧目中,自己选演的最后一个剧目。当年台上妙语连珠,台下哄堂大笑;城乡集镇到处传唱“我有饮到酒又有食到鸡”的盛况,至今宛如犹在眼前。今天虽则这位一代名丑,以84岁的高龄,真的“打罢铜锣归去”了,
