1959年9月,空军司令员刘亚楼上将被任命为国防部副部长,按规定应该配一辆豪华的“大红旗”轿车。刘亚楼坚决不同意,仍旧乘坐自己原来的“吉姆”轿车,并专门批示空司办公室主任不准换车。一次,工作人员趁刘亚楼到杭州开会的机会,把他的那辆“吉姆”轿车送到厂里去大修了。但是,由于车子问题太多,一时无法修好。为了不耽误去机场接刘亚楼,办公室主任便从国防部有关部门那里领回了那辆“大红旗”轿车。当刘亚楼走出机舱时,他一眼就看到办公室主任和停在不远处的“大红旗”轿车,脸上的笑容立即收敛了起来。主任赶紧走上前紧张地解释道:“那辆吉姆车正在大修,所以……”“我的车送厂大修了,你们可不可以从车队派辆别的车嘛,我认为没有车不是理由!”
