Vaccine development teams affiliated with the World Health Organization’s Global Vaccine and Immunization Program (GPV) recently pointed out that significant progress has been made in the development of new and effective vaccines against meningococcal and pneumococcal disease. The report concluded that the research and development of vaccines against the three major pathogenic microorganisms have entered different stages respectively. The new vaccine for Haemophilus influenzae type b (H1b) has been successfully tested and is being tested in several developed countries, including the United States, Iceland, Finland and Israel. Some vaccines have been licensed, but their main drawback is the high cost of conjugation due to their production.
