在浙江省武义县城滨江广场上,有一根只剩半截的“大烟囱”。县人武部每年都要组织民兵在这个半截子“大烟囱”前回顾历史,增强大家的国防意识。只因为它定格了当年日军掠夺武义县宝贵矿产——萤石的一段侵华史。武义素称“萤石之乡”。萤石是炼钢、炼铝的必需辅助剂。1931年前,武义只有40处采矿坑口。由于当时我国工业落后,所采萤石全部被日本设在上海的三义、黑木、小林三家洋行垄断,一部分用于日本的八幡炼铁所(钢铁基地),一部分被他们远销欧美,赚取高出收购价20倍以上的暴利。
