本文对刘熙《释名》中带有联想比附特征的308条声训作了具体分析，认为这些训释几近于索绪尔所定义的流俗词源，但其中有本于前人之说的，有据俚俗，方言作解的，不可尽归咎于是他个人的凿空之见。就是这部分声训仍有它阐释上的合理因素──揭示了符号传递系统中诗学意义的层面，从而为我们研究汉代以前的历史文化提供了可资参证的资料。因此不能以偏概全，一味否定《释名》在中国语言学史上的价值。
This article makes a concrete analysis of 308 discourse traits associated with association in Liu Xi’s “Shi Ming”, and holds that these explanations are almost similar to the popular etymology defined by Saussure. However, According to slang and dialect, it is due to his own personal opinion. It is this part of the phonetic training that still has its reasonable explanation on the interpretation of it - revealing the level of poetic significance in the system of symbolic transmission, thus providing us with verifiable information for studying the previous history and culture of the Han Dynasty. Therefore, we should not neglect the concept of “name” in the history of Chinese linguistics.
