中国第一个机器毛纺织工厂——甘肃织呢总局,是陕甘总督左宗棠从1878年开始筹办的,1880年9月16日(光绪六年八月十二日)开工生产,1883年8月17日之前不久,锅炉爆炸,被迫停工.1884年5月,由新任陕甘总督谭钟麟裁撤,这次开工整三年的时间.1899年(光绪二十五年),当时的陕甘总督陶模把甘肃织呢总局中的机器局,合并到原来的甘肃机器局,改名为“洋炮局”.不久,又把洋炮局归入“军装局”(这也是左宗棠原来创办的)统一管理.1903年(光绪二十九年),又在甘肃织呢总局的东厂设立甘肃高等学堂(后来又改为省立兰州中学,即现在的兰州第一中学的前身、畅家巷第一小学所在地).1906年(光绪三十二年),在西厂设
The first wool textile factory in China, Gansu Organization Office of Weaving Machine, was started by Zuo Zongtang, Governor General of Shaanxi and Gansu Province from 1878 onwards, and began production on September 16, 1880 (August 12, six years Guangxu).
