开国中将刘忠(1906~2002年),原名刘太平,又名刘永灿,福建省上杭县才溪乡人。刘忠从8岁起,断断续续读过4年私塾,算得上是个文化人;12岁起,被迫辍学,学了3年泥瓦匠;15岁起,又给人家当帮工,一干就是七八年。1929年5月,红四军主力第二次入闽,刘忠积极投身农民运动,很快加入中共党组织,并担任了上杭县工农赤卫队十三大队军需长。1930年3月,
