Abstract： The ethical criticism is closely related to the play. In the context of American Dream， human beings are twisted which means the American dream is as breakable as a foam. The economic burden， the career bump and the family affairs have added up to the salesman and the situation is prevailing in the modern society， which could be noticed and people should be alert to these risks. The ultimate care of the human beings are always on the move， therefore， the instruction function of ethical literary criticism is of most importance.

一、 Introduction
This paper is to present an ethical critical view of the play-Death of a Salesman， so the analyses could be of help to the further study of the play. It contains five parts， in which the previous and the further study suggestions are given.
二、 Critical Approach-The Ethical Literary Criticism
Nie（2010） points out that ethical literary criticism is a research method to read， analyze and interpret literary works，to study literary authors and literary problems from perspective of ethics.The basic thought of this method is that literature is the art of ethics in nature as it is the special expressions of ethical ideas and moral life in a particular historical period. By use of terms such as ethics， incest， ethical taboo，ethical chaos，ethical consciousness，ethical situation，ethical identity， ethical choice，etc.，the ethical literary criticism explains and comments the different life with its moral features from ethical perspective.
三、Discussion and Analysis of the Ethics in Death of a Salesman
In the modern times， ethics includes the ethical relation and moral codes between human beings and nature， human beings and the universe. Therefore， the following parts are divided to give ethical understanding of some key elements of the play The economic factor is an important one accounting for Willy’s doom. Biff is held dear by Willy and the relation between him and Willy is quite close until Biff finds Willy has an affair. Biff is a promising man in Willy’s opinion though Biff has been humble until then. Contrary to what Willy expects， Biff has been changing his job and falls into uncertain situation， unaware of what he desires. Biff was praised all the time to such an extent that some parts were beyond the fact. Those praises have become obstacles to Biff’s progress. As a result， he is lost in the sweet words and fails to listen to others’ advice and suggestions. Biff is handsome， good-tempered and promising so that he just believes so. Biff’s twisted ethical codes have led to a chain of failures， which has caused the doom of Willy. The bump in career and the children’s failures have stood in front of Willy， so the suicide is not only a relief for Willy but a compensation for the children. Just as Willy reaps what he sows， the consequence is severe. The ethical codes have been overused thus the tragedy is inevitable. 四、 Conclusion
The paper has presented two major views that in the capitalist society like America， ethics is impossible for any deal. The only thing that has kept is efficiency combined with the profits. Economical ethics is exterminated in those society， which has proved the breaking of the American Dream. On the basis of the two findings， the paper concludes that the tragic spirit since the ancient times has been falling down. The common people being defined as being the in-noble also share the spirit of tragedy， which mean the decline of tragic spirit.
