First, the full appreciation of RMB against major foreign currencies in May May be affected by the Sino-US Strategic Economic Dialogue held in late May. The exchange rate of U.S. dollar against RMB dropped to 7.6488 in May, dropping 7 ‰ for the full month, the largest single-month drop since 2007. In contrast, the dollar started a upward trend in major foreign currencies in May. The dollar trade-weighted index rose from 81.5 at the end of April to 82.5 at the end of May. Meanwhile, the overseas dollar against the RMB NDF exchange rate also rebounded.
