A signed article entitled “An Earthquake Waiting to Occur”, released by the British “New Scientist” on January 26, 1978, reviews the research carried out by the United States on the “bulge” of Palmdale. The title of the article states: "The 36 survey teams belonging to the United States Geological Survey officially began to intensify the three-month geodesy and gravity study of the Palmdale purse in Southern California on January 23, 1978. The huge crust of a crust has formed over the past 18 years and now it is possible that a major earthquake will occur only 55 km from the Los Angeles business district.
