Objective To evaluate the value of gastrointestinal tube stapler in esophageal and cardiac surgery. Methods A total of 192 esophageal and gastric cardia resections were performed mechanical anastomosis using a tube stapler during August 2001 and September 2008, including 124 males and 68 females, 135 esophageal and 57 cardia cancers, On the agreement of 43 cases, 149 cases under the bow anastomosis. Results There were 2 cases (1.04%) of anastomotic leakage, 4 cases of anastomotic stenosis (2.08%), 3 cases (1.56%) of anastomotic bleeding, and 13 cases (6.77%) of gastroesophageal reflux. Conclusion The application of gastrointestinal tube stapler in upper gastrointestinal reconstructive surgery is safe and reliable, and mechanical anastomosis is an effective technique to reduce the complications such as anastomotic fistula after operation.
