鼓大约诞生于4500年前,一般用木杵敲击,也可直接用手掌敲击。在中古代之前,鼓的主要功能是驱除猛兽和传递信息,随着社会的发展进步,鼓的应用范围逐渐扩大,从宫廷雅乐到民间歌舞,从祭祀集会到劳动竞赛,都离不开鼓类乐器。
