本刊读者向蒋英老师提出如下几个问题问一:Not having got a reply,I decided towrite again.这个句子中为什么用 Not having,而不用 Not getting?答:Not having got a reply.是现在分词完成式在句中作原因状语,表示这个动作明显先于句中谓语动词 decided 而发生的。若用现在分词一般式 Notgetting,则表示两个动词的动作同时发生了,这不符合句中的含义。问二:She doesn’t mind him say bad thingsabout her.和 She doesn’t mind his say badthings about her.两句中的 him 和 his 可以换吗?答:不可简单地替换。第一句中用 him 较为口语化,但在你说的第二句中应把 say 改为 saying,因为mind 后要求用 v-ing 形式,即 She doesn’t mind hissaying bad things about her。
The readers of this journal asked the following questions to Teacher Jiang Ying. First question: Why did you get Not reply, I decided to write again. Why didn’t you use Not getting in this sentence? A: Not having got a reply. Completion formulas are the adverbial adverbials in the sentence, which means that this action obviously precedes the predicate verb decided in the sentence. If we use the present participle Notgeting, it means that the two verbs have occurred at the same time. This does not meet the meaning of the sentence. Question two: She doesn’t mind him say bad thingsabout her. And She doesn’t mind his say badthings about her. Is there a difference between him and his in two sentences? The first sentence uses him to be more colloquial, but in the second sentence you say, you should change the say to saying because mind asks for the v-ing form, ie She doesn’t mind hissaying bad things about her.
