以往,油茶造林主要采用直播的方法,既浪费种子,出土时间又慢(一般需一个半月之久),遇到干旱来得早的年份,造成幼嫩苗木的大量死亡。如1978年浙江、安徽等省出现长达150—180天的干旱,直播造林的油茶成活率只有20—50%。为解决这一问题,近两年,我们用攸县油茶进行容器(塑料、竹、草泥)育苗造林200亩,效果良好,在1978年特大干旱情况下成活率达76%(见表)。容器育苗的优点是出苗早,出苗齐,出苗率高,比圃地育苗早出土13天;出苗率(100%)比圃地育苗(48%)提高52%;高生长比圃地育苗提高33%;根系发达,30%的植株地上部分有分叉。油茶容器育苗采用的三种容器(塑料、竹制、草泥),以塑料容器(两头通的)为最好。
