瑞典军方宣布已选择“豹”2作为其下一代主战坦克,这标志着瑞典装甲部队的未来在方向上和强调重点上有重大改变。采用新的武器平台包含着在机动性、防护和火力等方面的技术上,有明显的提高,使Stry 122(“豹”2S)成为现在可以得到的最先进的主战坦克之一。另外,为瑞典陆军选择Str 122是在陆军打算组建一支用其它车辆组成的全新部队的时候,这必定对机械化步兵产生类似的影响——装备来自前东德国家人民军库存里的二手БМП-1和МТЛБ。
The Swedish military announced that Leopard 2 has been selected as its next-generation main battle tank, signaling a major change in focus and direction to the future of the Swedish armored forces. The introduction of a new weapon platform that includes technically significant improvements in maneuverability, protection and firepower makes the Stry 122 (the “Panther” 2S) one of the most advanced main battle tanks available today. In addition, the selection of the Str 122 for the Swedish Army would have had a similar effect on mechanized infantry when the Army intended to form a completely new unit of other vehicles - equipped with second-hand БМП- 1 and МТЛБ.
