大多数美国的可地浸砂岩型铀矿的开发严格地受地质及水文条件的制约,即铀矿体呈卷状,位于潜水面以下,矿石具有良好的渗透性,铀矿卷上下部有完整的限制液体的不透水层,矿卷是连续的且有一定宽度,埋深一般小于300m,潜水面具有一定的净水压头,在选用的溶浸剂条件下铀矿物适于氧化溶解等。换言之,适于原地浸出开采的铀矿是类似于原先铀沉积时的那些物理及化学过程的卷状砂岩型铀矿。 根据铀矿卷形成方式和还原剂性质、来源,又可将卷状砂岩型铀矿床大致分为4种:
