刘月华退休后热心公益,看到许多外来工子弟下课后没有写作业的地方,就和几位退休老人创办了“刘姥姥温馨小屋”。他们从孩子们身上收获了感动,也收获了生命的价值——创办“温馨小屋”73岁的刘月华是北京通州区葛布店社区退休人员,2013年5月,刘月华跟随居委会工作人员,对协辛庄村孩子上小学的家庭做了家访,目的是摸清孩子们课后的生活情况。协辛庄是葛布店北里社区的一个平房村,土地流转后,农民离开了村子,一间间平房以相对低廉的价格租给了外来务工者。
