旋光异构体具有不同的生理作用,如D-(-)异丙肾上腺素对支气管舒张作用比L-(+)型异构体强50~800倍;(-)-抗坏血酸有抗坏血病作用,而(+)-抗坏血酸则无此作用;解毒剂D-青霉胺毒性很小,剂量每天可达1g,而L-异构体毒性很大,在D-青霉胺中如含有1%的L-异构体就会产生毒性反应。鉴此,在药物研究中为了提高药物的生理活性、减少副作用以及深入研究药物的作用机制,均要求提供光学纯的药物,因而对映体的拆分技术是一具有理论和实际意义的课题。
