西南师范大学地理系承担了《四川省志·地理志》的编写任务后,于1983年秋成立了《四川省志·地理志》编辑委员会,由四川省顾问委员会常委张永青任名誉主任,地理系教授杨宗干任主任,中国地理教研室主任赵汝植任副主任,同时组建了地理志编辑室,参加编写的单位除地理系外,还有生物系动物教研室、四川省气象局,四川省地方志编委会的蒲孝荣也将参加编写工作。 1984年3月召开了地理志编辑委员会扩大会。根据四川省委(1981)70号文件和四川省志编委会有关文件精仲,讨论编写的指导思想,落实地理志编写任务、主要篇章内容、体例、编写分工、完成时间等。会议决定地理志编写内容共分三篇:第一篇概说,下分境域、政区建置沿革、人口与民族;第二篇自然地理,下分地质与矿产、地貌、气候、植物、动物、综合自然区划;第三篇经济地理,下分农业、工业、交通、经济区划。全书约180万
