清道光年间,林则徐先后在江苏任按察使及巡抚,因患软脚病,夫人患肝疾,经人推荐,认识了当时已名满江浙的青浦名医何书田,从此结下深厚友谊。俩人往来频密,诗酒唱和,非常契合。何书田应林则徐之求,写下了戒除烟瘾,活人无数的《救迷良方》,经过实践,被林则徐上奏道光并普及民间。林则徐在江苏治水期间,采用了何书田的诸多良策;何书田在灾区自发赈救灾民,助林则徐救灾一臂之力。真所谓“清廉常怀爱国志,医人常负怜悯心”的典型范例。
