[Objective] To investigate the relationship between TSP-1 and E-Cadherin expression in colorectal carcinoma and its relationship with microvessel density (MVD) and explore the role of TSP-1 in colorectal cancer. [Methods] The expression of TSP-1 and E-Cadherin in 56 cases of colorectal cancer and 20 cases of corresponding normal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. The number of microvessels was counted by CD34 and MVD was counted. [Results] The expressions of TSP-1 and E-Cadherin in colorectal carcinoma and normal tissues were significantly different (P <0.01). TSP-1 and E-Cadherin are closely related to the degree of differentiation, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, liver metastasis and Dukes stage in colorectal cancer. TSP-1 was positively correlated with E-Cadherin, both of which were negatively correlated with MVD. [Conclusion] TSP-1 and E-Cadherin play an important role in angiogenesis and metastasis of colorectal cancer, and they may have synergistic effects.
