On November 2, China Telecom Group announced via its official Weibo (twitter in China) that Wang Xiaochu, former general manager of China Telecom Group, was promoted to board chairman of the company and the position of general manager was taken by Yang Jie, former vice general manager of the company.
On the same day, China Telecom Group also announced the appointment of Yang Jie as CEO and president of its listed company China Telecom.
This appointment means that Wang Xiaochu, 53, has become the first board chairman of China Telecom Group since it was founded. Yang Jie, 49, has become the youngest general manager of China Telecom Group.
Previously, the leader of China Telecom Group was the general manager. The leadership change shows that China Telecom Group is promoting the system of board, which is strongly ad- vocated by the state-owned enterprises in China. China Telecom Group’s main competitors China Mobile and China Unicom have already finished the change.
Previously, on July 20, Shang Bin, former vice general manager of China Telecom Group, was appointed Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China. Without a strong rival, Yang Jie successfully took the position of general manager of the group.
According to public data, Yang Jie has 27 years of experience in the telecommunication industry. He started his career in a local department of telecom in Shanxi. Then he joined the branch of China Telecom in Shanxi and was given continuous promotions until he got his current position. Prior to this announcement, Yang Jie was responsible for the construction of network and IT development in China Telecom.
