张之洞(1837-1909)是晚清重臣和洋务派健将,对近代中国的政治、经济、军事、外交、文化等方面具有广泛影响。他任湖广总督18年,兴实业、办文教、练新军,成为湖北武汉地区现代化的先驱及中国早期现代化的巨擘。为推动张之洞研究,武汉大学中国传统文化研究中心、武汉市社会科学院、政协武汉市文史学习委员会拟于2002年9月上旬在武汉主办“张之洞与武汉早期现代化”国际学术讨论会。会议主题有:一、张之洞与晚清政局及社会;二、张之洞与晚清两湖地区社会转型;三、张之洞与武汉早期现代化。
Chang Chih-tung (1837-1909) was a late Qing minister and a foreign military general who had extensive influence on the political, economic, military, diplomatic and cultural aspects of modern China. He served as governor of Hubei and Guangdong 18 years, Xing Industrial, cultural education, practicing the new army, becoming a pioneer in the modernization of Wuhan in Hubei Province and China’s early modernization giants. In order to promote the study of Zhang Zhidong, Wuhan University Chinese Culture Research Center, Wuhan Academy of Social Sciences, CPPCC Wuhan Municipal History Research Committee proposed in early September 2002 in Wuhan hosted “Zhang Zhidong and Wuhan early modernization” international symposium. The topics of the conference are as follows: First, Zhang Zhidong and the political and social situation in the late Qing Dynasty; second, Zhang Zhidong and social transition in the Hunan and Hubei regions in the late Qing dynasty; third, Zhang Zhidong and Wuhan’s early modernization.
