According to the information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Miao Xu, was appointed the party group chief of the MIIT, taking the place of Li Yizhong. The news appeared on the official website of MIIT on December 9, 2010.
Miao Xu, born in 1955, was ten years younger than Li Yizhong, who has already reached the set retirement age of 65. Previously, Miao Xu was the vice head of the MIIT.
Miao Xu was born in Beijing. He graduated from the Hefei University of Industry in 1982 and joined in the China Automotive Sales Service Co., Ltd., where he climbed to the vice general manager later. After several positions in the state-owned auto companies, Miao was appointed the vice director of the Automotive Department, Ministry of the Mechanic Industry and then the deputy engineer-in-chief of this ministry. In 1997 he returned to a state-owned enterprise, where he served as the party secretary. In May 2005, he was appointed party secretary of Wuhan, Hubei. Three years later he was appointed vice head of the MIIT.
From above we can see that his career is closely related with autos. His wonderful performance also concerned the autos. When he took the Deongfeng Group in 1997, the company lost 500 million yuan (USD 75.1 million). When he left, the company could earn 6 billion yuan (USD 901.2 million) per year. In 2009, the program of “promoting China’s domestic auto industry” was issued, which could be attributed to the MIIT and Miao Xu.
