Pure strains of New Zealand white rabbits were inoculated HSV-lstokek strain, the successful establishment of herpes simplex virus keratitis model. 45 days after self-healing, the cornea of the original lesion as a donor, healthy New Zealand white rabbits as recipients, percutanous keratoplasty (PKP) at the same time, take the affected side of 10 and 10 healthy trigeminal ganglion, the application of polymerase chain HSV-1 DNA was detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Fifty days after operation, 10 corneal allografts and 10 trigeminal ganglions were used for the same test. The results showed that 8 HSV-1 positive in 10 affected trigeminal ganglions and 3 positive ones in 10 healthy corneas were positive; 10 of 7 corneal grafts were positive and no HSV-1 DNA was detected in the trigeminal ganglion. Thus, HSV-1 can induce latent infection in the ipsilateral trigeminal ganglion and latent in the contralateral trigeminal ganglion, and the cornea is most likely another latent site of HSV-1
