2008年1月12日至2月初,内江市出现了自1951年有气象记录以来最为严重的低温阴雨雪灾害天气.日平均气温异常偏低、降水量异常偏多,均突破历史同期极值;小于3℃日平均气温的连续天数、大于0.1mm降水连续日数,均突破历史最长记录;降雪范围、强度、积雪深度为历史罕见.造成2008年1月份大范围低温阴雨雪天气的主要原因是:2007年夏季迅速形成的"拉尼娜事件",致使环流异常,冬季中纬度大气环流经向度加强;乌拉尔山地区住势高度场异常偏高,中亚至蒙古西部高度场偏低,有利于冷空气不断分裂南下;西太平洋副热带高压异常偏北偏西,有利于暖湿空气向盆地输送;青藏高原低槽异常活跃,增强了水汽向盆地的输送.此次历史罕见的低温雨雪天气给内江市经济和人民生活造成了严重的影响,综合评估为大型气象灾害.
