世卫组织建议:对于65岁以上的老年人,每周至少3天进行增强平衡能力和预防跌倒的活动。这是因为老年人因运动系统与神经系统功能衰退,肌肉老化,往往是眼到手不到。比如,有的老年人用竹竿打枣,打着打着自己就跌倒了,这就是眼睛看到了却指挥不了身体,手眼协调出现偏差而导致摔跤。闭眼单脚站立实验就能测出老人平衡感好坏,即闭着一只眼睛单脚站立,如果时间在5秒以下,说明身体平衡感较差,
