由全国十四个学术单位联合发起,上海社科院历史研究所和上海市历史学会共同主办的全国首届“租界与近代中国社会”学术讨论会,于1988年7月4日至7日在上海举行。来自全国各地的代表104人,就租界史研究意义、租界作用、评价、租界与城市近代化、租界与市民社会生活、租界的类型与特点,租界史研究方法等问题,畅所欲言、各抒己见,进行了热烈的讨论。现将有关情况综述如下:
