赤峰城郊林场是在1954年建立的。几年来共完成杨、榆、桑、黑松、锦鸡儿、柞树造林3万多亩,平均成活率为77%以上(不包括1958年秋和1959年春)。这些幼树经过逐年的抚育管理,现已郁闭成林,生长最高的已达3——5公尺,在全场范围内形成了一片绿树成荫,基本上控制了风沙为害。为了战胜风沙灾害,党和政府从1950年就开始发动机关、团体和居民群众在赤峰城郊东沙坨子造林,到1953年共完成
