In the past two decades, technological and economic power has opened up the world of telecommunications. Undo deregulation and fragmentation combined with the advances in fiber optic technology have allowed data and voice traffic to grow exponentially. Figure 1 shows the changes in network capacity from the early 1980s through 2000.
