LIGHTBOARD PORTABLE PRODUCTS SHORTEN AND MORE FUNCTIONALITY Recently, a chewing gum-sized keyboard is replacing a foldable PDA keyboard - perhaps a permanent replacement. The keyboard is an infrared laser beam that maps standard traditional keyboard characters onto any surface, such as a tablet on the side of a desk or airplane seat, with a small camera taping the keyboard. Although this is not a new concept, it has only recently become mature and reliable. VKB’s iTech Bluetooth virtual keyboard is popular with technical bloggers for its ease of use, with an accuracy rate of 80 words per minute and battery life of 2 hours (at: vkb- tech.com, priced at $ 150-250). VKB, based in Menlo Park, California, USA, is in talks with mobile and PDA makers about future product prospects; the SX1 prototype mobile phone from Siemens now uses a virtual keyboard.
