当means作“方式、手段”解时，它是个单复数同行的词，谓语到底是用单数还是复数要依具体情况而定。如：

This means of transport is a very old one.
这是一种古老的交通工具。
Several means of transport are available to you.

by means of 通过……的方式
by all means 务必，当然
by no means 决不
means表示“方法，手段”，其单复数形式相同。当means作主语且有every， each， one， a等词修饰时，谓语动词用单数；有all， some， several， many， few等词修饰时，谓语动词用复数。
means， way， method， manner均有“方式，方法”之意，其介词搭配为：by ... means， in ... way/manner， with ... method。
occur
vi. 发生；举行；存在
The words of the song occurred suddenly.
突然想起这首歌的歌词。
When did the accident occur？
意外是什么时候发生的？
A good idea occurred to/struck me.
我想到了一个好主意。
It occurred to/struck me that I had left my bag in the taxi.
我突然想起来我把包掉在出租车里了。

【辨析】
