盐源彝族自治县位于四川省凉山彝族自治州的西南部,现有苹果18,000亩,去年总产380万斤。这里所产的苹果品质好,香气浓,1984年10月,在天津市召开的全国农垦苹果品种更新协作会上,盐源县慢坡子园艺场生产的金冠、红冠、红星、红元帅被评为全国农垦系统金冠系第一名和元帅系的一、二、三名。盐源苹果具有高产、质优、品种多的特点: 高产:金帅品种18年生树龄,单株产量一千斤以上;红星品种11年生树龄,单株产量738斤。质优:个大、色艳、品质优良。以当家品种金冠为例,单果重一般在200克以上,最大的500克。色金黄、光亮、汁多、质细脆嫩、含糖量高、香气浓。据分析:果实可食部份占90％以上,每一百毫升果汁含糖10.4—13.8克,含酸0.27—0.37克,果汁中含可溶性固形物12.6—18.6％。
