我站周围均为高大流动沙丘,自然环境恶劣,植被稀少,在落沙坡脚分布有少量野生植物.仅在附近沙坡头村依靠地下泉水灌溉的地方有少量栽培植物.1964年我站在附近开垦了少量流沙地,1965年在灌溉条件下引种了苹果、葡萄、桃、杏、枣等果树和蔬菜,1969和1970年又试种了一些粮、油作物,1971年正式将沙坡头地区流动沙地的农业利用列入研究计划,继续大量引种果树及其它作物,取得了一些结果,现将情况初报于后.
