How inland enterprises develop an export-oriented economy is an important issue related to China’s economic revival. The establishment of an export-oriented economy by the Northwest Five Cotton Group started early, advanced quickly, and yielded good results. At present, they already have the world’s advanced level of air-jet looms in the late 1980s, formed a Sino-foreign joint venture group, dredged foreign sales channels for self-supported import and export trade, and formed export product series. The quality of products enjoys credibility, and exports account for more than 60% of total production. Since 1984, the average export volume has increased at an annual rate of 47.71%, reaching 33.2 million in 1989.
