There have been quite a few professional film and television publications in Hong Kong, but the trend has been declining in recent years. Last year, “Golden Harvest Film” of Golden Harvest Pictures was suspended; in the second half of this year, “Hong Kong Film Weekly”, the publicity mouthpiece of New City Film Company, was suspended. Then came the rumor that even the most senior Shaw Brothers’ agency publication, “Southern Films,” was going to not go ahead. In this way, there will be only four movie journals in Hong Kong left, including “Chinese and Foreign Pictures,” “Film Double Weekly,” “Galaxy Illustrated,” and “Galaxy World.” The depressing phenomenon of film publications has aroused the widespread concern of the media and film industry in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Newspaper commented that there are many reasons for this situation. The first is the increasing popularity of television, so that the past as the main entertainment object of the movie the majority of the audience, turned to television this free enjoyment. People are losing their curiosity and mystery to movies, and now popular television stars seem to be more “attractive” than movie stars.
