在北影厂,巧逢陶金同志即将随同他主演的《八千里路云和月》与《一江春水向东流》二片飞赴美国出席国际电影节,因此趁便得以聆听他谈述了拍摄二片的感受。提起他怎样开始电影生涯时,他说那完全是出于“义愤”。三十年代,他尝过毕业即失业的苦头,参加“一二九”学生运动受到过反动当局的迫害,所以后来他毅然放弃自己所熟悉的美术专业,选择电影做为针砭时弊、抒发愤懑的武器。抗战期间,他由北京至上海,从武汉到重庆,一路所见,亲眼看到党领导下的人民群众遍地点燃的抗日烽火,看到国民党反动派投降卖国的罪恶行径,看到“前方吃紧,后方紧在北影厂,巧逢陶金同志即将随同他主演的《八千里路云和月》与《一江春水向东
