The relationship between Canada and the United States was markedly phased in. The United States tried to take Canada by force but did not succeed during the United States’ war against British colonialism and its fight for independence and during the Second American War between 1812 and 1814. 1814 The Ghent-year treaty stopped the United States from using arms to swallow Canada and opened up a relatively stable period of Sino-U.S. Relations that ended when the U.S. civil war ended in 1865.
