义乌,地处浙江中部,面积1105平方公里。1982年,义乌在全国率先开放小商品市场,积极实施“兴商建市”发展战略,培育了全国最大的小商品市场,并依托市场大力发展小商品制造业和现代农业,带动了区域经济社会的全面发展。现在,义乌已成为全球最大的日用消费品集散地,国际商贸城成为全球最大的专业批发市场,经营面积260万平方米,商位5万个,从业人员20万人,汇集了41个行业1900多个大类40万种商品(注:联合国公布全球共有52万种商品),义乌被誉为“小商品海洋,购物者天堂”,8000余名外商常住义乌采购小商品,有500多家义乌公司在国外从事小商品批发。义乌每年有40万只标准集装箱的货物销售到200多个国家和地区。2005年,联合国难民署、家乐福亚洲总部分别在义鸟设立了采购中心。2005年,义乌实现人均GDP5400美元.财政总收入35亿元,其中地方财政收入19.6亿元。义乌市社会经济综合发展指数在全国百强县市中排名第15位,综合竞争力居浙江省县级市首位。义乌建有机场、火车站及10个客(货)运站,日均旅客输送量近20万人次、运送贷物3.5万吨。
