这个时期儿童能听懂的词汇远较能说出的词汇多,因而理解语言应该作为这个时期语言发展的首要任务。首先是理解周围事物的名称;其二是理解各种常见动作,如拿、吃、喝、坐、走、抱、招手、摇头、哭、笑,屙、尿等;其三是理解成人的要求和安排。语言发展的第二项任务是鼓励他们摹仿成人发音,学习说话。不论孩子是否积极主动地跟学,成人都要多说、多讲,为孩子提供学话的机会,并尽量激发他学话的积极性。语言发展的第三项任务是激发孩子各种乐于同成人进行语言交际的动机。比如,当孩子可能使用某些动词和名词表达自己的愿望时,应尽量鼓励他用语言提出要求,拒绝他用手势或表情提出的要求。
